“Welcome to Wherever You Are” – by Barron and Ricky
Ski day with my best friend!
Meet Ricky. The epitome of a ninja. He can do anything! From sports to backflips and all kinds of crazy stuff; from slaying guitar without ever having had a lesson to being a ripping snowboarder; from the funniest jokes to being an amazing friend. He’s been my best buddy in Crested Butte since I lived here for my senior year and is SUCH a great addition to my life.
He was home from college in New York (Cornell – yeah, he’s also super smart) overChristmas break and we got to hang out a lot, along with the other part of our trifecta: Connor. He’s hilarious too. We three always have so much fun, share adventures and mostly laughs.
It was one of Ricky’s last days in town when him and I went skiing on a bluebird day and made videos for fun. I put them together and added some music and here’s the final result! Hope you will enjoy it as much as we loved being on the slopes on such a beautiful day!!
Sisters Make Best Friends
I turned 18 on December 26th, huge deal (in Spain, at least!). I was back home in Barcelona for it and celebrated it with my family and friends. My parents, my sister Mònica, and my little brother Jep went to the harbor and had lunch at a terrace by the boats and the sea. It was such a pretty day, cold but sunny.

Me and my brother Jep (11) - click on picture to see it bigger...he's the cutest thing in the world!
Then in the evening, my cousins, uncles, aunts, and grandparents came over to our house and we all had delicious food, toasted with champagne and I blew my 18 candles!! When I thought the night was about done, my 4 best girlfriends from school showed up at my door with a cake made of candy and two candles with a 1 and an 8 with a little flame on top. They sang “happy birthday” to me (in Spanish) and stayed for a while.
I’m so thankful for all the special people I have in my life, who love me and I love with all my heart, and will do anything everyday to see me smile and be happy. My best birthday gift just got to me a couple days ago. My sister finished making it all by herself, and I know she put so much time, love and effort into it. She is so lovely and so incredibly sweet and I love her more than my own life. Check it out and you will have to agree with me that I have the BEST sister in the entire world!!!
The words in it are in Catalan, here’s what it says: “18 years ago, one of the biggest and most important people in my life was born. Happy Birthday Tuchi! – (‘tuchi’ comes from bet, bettuchi, tuchi) – Thank you for always being there all these years, for all the advice, and for all the smiles…thank you for everything. Because you already know, tuchi… sisters make best friends. I LOVE YOU SISTER!”
A day in the life in Paradise
I wake up wrapped in the warm covers of the cozy loft, roll over and look at the time: I slept in and it feels great. I look out the window and smile at the gorgeous blanket of snow over town. The wooden cabins are as cute as any house can get. I notice the white, soft snowflakes gracefully falling down with no rush, floating until they land on the ground. It’s the perfect day to go skiing, it will be warm because the clouds trap the heat in, and there’s going to be some great powder all over the mountain. I go down the ladder from the loft to the living room, still in my pajamas, and have a cup of tea as I chat with Darlene. I watch Sky come up the stairs with a sleepy face but a sweet grin on his face. He kisses me and goes to the fridge and stares into it for a long time before he grabs the orange juice and slugs some of it. It is a given that we are going skiing, so we get ready and head to the bus stop. What a beautiful day!
We get up to the mountain, meet up with Ricky and Connor, my two best buddies from my high school graduating class. We ski while it’s still dumping, but it’s warm. We do some awesome runs, there is SO much snow everywhere, especially when we go off the main run into the trees and powdery places no one has skied yet. I can’t believe how fluffy and soft the snow is! I just keep yelling “IT’S SO FLUFFY!!”. After a couple hours, the clouds break up to show the prettiest blue skies I have ever seen. Blue is only this blue here in Crested Butte, it startles me every single day. It seems like God photoshopped the scene to make it perfect.
This is what a normal Saturday or Sunday in Crested Butte is like, life is beyond good!
Welcome!
Hi, this is Bet, welcome to my page! I am Sky’s girlfriend and as you might know, we are obsessed and deeply in love with each other. I’m 18 years old and I love love love Darlene as if she was my own mother. I am from Barcelona, Spain but I’m currently living in Crested Butte, Colorado with Sky and his parents, so get ready to know more about me and my life in this beautiful town through “Bet’s Page” that I will be updating from time to time!

Yay!! You have your own page now!! That’s great… i love your stories. Question for you… how on earth did you initially decide to do your study abroad experience in Crested Butte? I mean, it obviously worked out for the best since you ended up meeting the love of your life and whatnot… but how did you end up there in the first place? Just curious. Take care, and as always… best of luck to you and Sky!
Hi Gina! I know right? SOOO exciting to have my own page as a part of Dar’s awesome blog!!
That is a very good question. I started coming to the states for the summers to learn english and going to summer camp when I was in 7th grade, and I always knew that I wanted to study in the States for university but I also wanted to studying here some time before then. I was going to go to California and live with my best friend Kelsey for my senior year of high school but we couldn’t work it out with the school because it was private and all, and I still wanted to live in the U.S. So my parents told me “well, we have our good family friends in Crested Butte, the O’Neals, would you like to see if they’d like to have you and live there for the year?” I LOVED the idea because I’d been to CB before and I had said I was going to live here at some point of my life, so I went right for it. And ended up here, having the best year ever, living in the most beautiful place, and finding the love of my life, Skysky. (: God had it all planned out!
Thanks for taking the time to write me! God Bless.

Bet! I was so excited when I saw “Bet’s Page” added to the blog! I look forward to your updates…
YAYYYY!! I’m so excited too! (:
I stumbled across this blog by chance, and soon it has become part of my reading repertoire. I love how you live life. Fully and completely. Making the most of every minute. Loving with all your heart. The video of the two of you, singing Just the way you are, was such a representation of your past, present and future yet to come. I wish you both an abundance of goodness, love, hope and faith. What a beautiful journey you have begun … good luck, god bless xxx
Awww you are SO sweet, thank you so much!!! I love living life to the max (: stay tuned and find out more about my adventures! Have a blessed day! Bet
Hay Bet,
I never comment on things I read, but this time I think I should. I’d have to admit that I’ve googled your name several times to check if you had your own blog….. I can relate to your story. I was a foreign exchange student in America too. Though my lovestory didn’t get as beautiful as yours is turning out to be and already is. I gotta say, I have lots of respect for the decisions you and Sky are making in order to make a future together work. Such an inspiration. I wish you the best of luck for the difficult times you might have to face in the time to come, but as I can already tell from the stories I’ve read, I think your alls love is strong enough to overcome anything
I wish you joy and happiness in the exciting times you’re experiencing.
Take care!
Emily,
(The Netherlands

Hola Bet:
I had to admit that this has been the best idea ever. Since you start blogging I began to search if you had your own blog or even facebook. I love the journey that you have decided to follow and even can compare a little with you. I am from Puerto Rico, I was on Colorado 2 yrs ago and I absolutely love it there. I also went to an internship in the US while I was going to college and my main dream is to go to Spain. So, basically I just wish you the very best and hope that Darlene can overcome all this problems that have been dealing since the closing of the restaurant.
Con Dios por delante!
PS:
Welcome to college life is a WHOLE different journey. Enjoy!
Hola (: Isn’t Colorado the prettiest place ever?? I love living here!! Oh my gosh, you’re going to LOVEEE Spain, it’s beautiful, I hope you get to go there sometime! Thank you so much for taking the time to write me such nice words! I’m really excited about college next fall too, so ready! (: God Bless, Bet
You are such a breath of fresh air Bet! You seem like such a sweetheart and I enjoy reading about your “fairy tail” romance with Sky. It’s refreshing so see a love that is so young and innocent yet seems so mature beyond your years. God knew exactly what he was doing when he brought you two together. You are a lovely woman and Sky is a jewel! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings with us. God bless!!!
I meant “fairy tale”…lol!
Dear Brandy, thank you for your sweet words of encouragement, I’m so flattered! I am really thankful for Sky and how much God has blessed me through him and his family. He is one of a kind!! Thanks for reading, more coming soon! God Bless (: Bet
Hi,
Although you’re story is quite inspiring and beautiful, do you not at all think that you are a little young to be making these kinds of decisions. You two just seem so young to know for sure that you want to spend the rest of your life with one another. I know the whole thing about God and faith and love, but it just seems a little unrealistic to me. Just saying. However, if this is what you know is right then the best of luck to you both!
Maybe (: thats why we’re going to separate colleges and waiting till we graduate college to get married and all that stuff (: otherwise we’d be getting married at 18 and I’d probably be on teen mom, not ok haha For today… We are SO HAPPY and in love and blessed to share our worlds and we are having a blast together dreaming about our futures, all the while living for today. I don’t think age matters when it comes to making mature decisions, especially when they affect my life in such a positive way. When you know, you know. And I know! I didn’t move to the smallest mountain town in the middle of nowhere out of chance and Sky and I aren’t a coincidence, I know that much. And I know that God blesses the people who trust in Him and honor Him with their lives and that’s what we’re doing, so we’re confident! Thank you so much for your comment (:

Hi Bet!
I love reading your posts! I’m in a long distance relationship for my boyfriend of 4 years… I’m pursuing my Ph.D. while he’s working full time. We truly believe that we have a lifetime to spend together, so we decided that it was better to pursue our dreams and career goals, then reunite in a few years. It’s so encouraging to read your story, where you and Sky are still so passionate and excited about your relationship, even after doing long distance. My boyfriend and I wish you guys the best of luck in the future, in not only your individual endeavors, but also your future together
P.S. We’re planning a trip to Spain this summer, and I’m a huge Barca fan… Any tips on getting Camp Nou tickets?
